Ocean sailor Ella Hibbert visited Gibraltar, where she met Amy Pretty, the youngest person to achieve the RYA Yachtmaster Instructor qualification, at the offices of Pretty Sailing.
Ella is currently working on her project “Ella in the Arctic”, an expedition that aims to circumnavigate the Arctic solo while also drawing attention to the changes transforming this region of the planet.
Amy, well known within the sailing community of the Strait, actively competes in J80 regattas and hopes to take part in international championships in the class.
Ella, for her part, is also an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and has gained prominence in the international sailing community after becoming the first British woman to sail solo through the Northwest Passage, one of the most legendary and challenging routes on the planet.
Her project “Ella in the Arctic” combines ocean sailing, scientific outreach and awareness of the impact of climate change in the Arctic, a region that is warming several times faster than the rest of the planet.
