Cruising sailing in Sotogrande and Cádiz is set for another national event. The Agapantux team, from the Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande, and the Taboga Cuatro team, from the Real Club Náutico de Cádiz, will represent Andalusia at the 2026 Spanish Cruiser Championship, to be held from 16 to 18 October in the waters off Calpe.

The competition will bring together 18 crews from 13 regional federations and will be contested aboard Tom 28 one-designs, a format that will allow participants to compete on boats with equivalent specifications.

Two teams from Cádiz take on the national elite

The Agapantux comes into this event having been crowned Andalusian Absolute Cruiser Champion, a title secured following a consistent season across various regattas along the Andalusian coast.

Diego Gálvez’s boat, usually skippered by Pablo Villar during the regional circuit, will have Alfonso Merello as skipper in the Spanish Championship, according to the official list of participants.

Meanwhile, the Taboga Cuatro, skippered by Antonio Coronilla, secured the Andalusian runners-up spot after keeping the title race alive right up to the final race of the season.

A final on a level playing field

Unlike standard ORC cruising regattas, in which boats of different designs and specifications take part, the national final will be contested using Tom 28 one-design boats.

This format allows for real-time competition and places particular emphasis on manoeuvres, starts, tactics and crew coordination.

The programme will begin on Thursday 15 October with registration and official training sessions. The scoring races will take place from Friday 16 to Sunday 18.

El Estrecho in the running for the national title

The qualification of the Agapantux and the Taboga Cuatro once again places the clubs from Sotogrande and Cádiz amongst the leading lights of Spanish cruising sailing.

Both crews will now face a competition different from the regattas that earned them their qualification, with the aim of applying their experience on the Andalusian race courses to a national final.
