STRAIT+ transforms the StraitMagazine ecosystem into an app designed for those who live and breathe the sea, sailing and wind sports in the Strait of Gibraltar. News, radio notices, Live Wind, ports, buying and selling, events and the community are now brought together in a single environment designed for mobile devices.
StraitMagazine is taking a new step forward with STRAIT+, an app developed to bring together, in a single digital environment, a large part of the services and content that make up the magazine’s ecosystem.
The app is not intended merely as a way to read the news. Its aim is to become a useful tool for those who sail, windsurf, wingfoil, kitesurf or simply want to keep up to date with what is happening around the Strait of Gibraltar.
The entire STRAIT ecosystem in a single app
The home screen provides access to the main sections of STRAIT+.
From the Home screen, users can view the latest news published by StraitMagazine and quickly access sections such as Sailing, Live Wind, Market, Crew, Magazine, Events and STRAIT TV.
The bottom navigation bar always displays five main sections: Home · Sail · Live Wind · Market · MY STRAIT.
The idea is simple: to allow users to move from information to practical tools without leaving the app. Reading a news article, checking the wind, viewing a marine warning, locating a port or reviewing an event can all be done within the same interface.
Navega: wind, currents, ports and radio notices
One of the main sections of STRAIT+ is ‘Navigate’, designed to bring together useful information relating to navigation.
From this section, you can access various tools covering wind, currents, ports and radio bulletins.
The app allows you to view maps and data relating to sailing conditions in the Strait and along the southern coast.
Maritime radio notices on the map
Of particular relevance is the section on official radio notices, which allows you to view active maritime notices for different areas on the map.
These include areas such as Cádiz, the Strait, the Costa del Sol, Alborán and Cabo de Gata.
The aim is to provide a quick and visual way of accessing information that may be useful before setting out to sea.
STRAIT+ does not replace official sources or standard maritime safety procedures, but it does make it easier to access and locate this information via an interface designed for boaters.
Ports and marinas
The app also includes information on ports and marinas around the Strait and the southern coast, providing users with a practical guide to nautical facilities and points of interest for navigation.
Live Wind: find out what the wind is actually like
One of the app’s most important features is Live Wind.
Those who practise wind sports are well aware of the problem: checking various forecasts and still wondering what the conditions are really like at each spot.
Live Wind aims to provide precisely that answer.
The section combines a map, weather stations, forecasts and community reports.
Users can check different points along the Strait’s coastline and nearby areas, view wind speed and direction, check forecasts and access information from official weather stations where available.
Stations, forecasts and the community
The map allows you to view numerous points along the coast and access the information available for each spot.
Where official measurements are available, the app can display real-time wind data. Furthermore, the forecasts provide an insight into expected conditions over the coming hours and days.
The community also plays an important role. Users can submit reports directly from the spots themselves, providing an additional reference on the actual conditions at that moment.
Favourite spots
Users can save their favourite spots, making it easier to access the areas they check most frequently.
For windsurfers, wingfoilers, kitesurfers and sailors, Live Wind aims to become one of the core tools of STRAIT+.
STRAIT Market: buy and sell water sports equipment
The app also features STRAIT Market, a dedicated space for buying and selling water sports equipment.
Users can search listings by category, view photographs, prices, location and the condition of the equipment, as well as save their favourite items.
The available categories include disciplines such as windsurfing, wingfoiling, kitesurfing, SUP, RC sailing, cruising/racing and accessories.
You can also post listings directly from the app and manage the items you’ve put up for sale.
Market’s philosophy is to create a specialised space where buyers and sellers share a common interest in sailing and water sports.
Crew: find a boat or crew
Complementing this community feature is Crew, designed to connect people looking for a boat or crew.
STRAIT+ thus extends its role beyond simply providing information and creates tools designed to directly connect the sailing community.
MI STRAIT: the user’s personal area
Another key feature of the app is MY STRAIT.
This is the personal area from which each user can manage their activity on the platform.
From this section, you can access sections such as My Listings, My Opportunities, My Alerts, My Events and My Favourites.
Users can save Live Wind spots, Market listings or ports, as well as manage events and alerts.
The aim is for STRAIT+ not to work exactly the same way for everyone.
A windsurfer might mainly use Live Wind. A cruiser might focus on Sailing and Ports. Those following regattas will find the combination of News and Calendar particularly useful.
Each user can thus build their own experience within the STRAIT ecosystem.
Calendar, magazine and content from StraitMagazine
The app also maintains a direct link to the editorial content of StraitMagazine.
The STRAIT Calendar allows users to view regattas, sporting competitions and events related to the nautical and sporting scene in the Strait.
The digital magazine continues to form part of the ecosystem, alongside news, features and audiovisual content published on STRAIT TV.
STRAIT+ is coming soon
STRAIT+ represents a natural evolution of StraitMagazine.
The project was launched to report on what is happening around the Strait of Gibraltar, but the app expands on that objective. Now it is not just about providing information, but also about offering tools to the community that sails, competes, trains, buys equipment or checks the conditions before heading out onto the water.
News, sailing, real-time wind, Market, Events, Magazine and community.
All within a single app.
STRAIT+
Coming soon to
The whole Strait, in the palm of your hand.
