The regatta will take place on 8 November at the mouth of the River Guadiaro, with sailors from Sweden, Germany and Andalusia taking part, and all eyes on the 2027 Spanish Cup.

The RCSOTOGRANDE DF65 radio-controlled sailing fleet is preparing to host the 4th Midas & Co Trophy next Sunday, 8 November, one of the most prominent events on its sporting calendar. The competition will take place at the mouth of the River Guadiaro, in Sotogrande, with the aim of breaking its previous participation record.

With ten days to go before the event, 15 sailors have already registered, whilst the organisers are confident of reaching at least 20 boats. The first edition of the trophy brought together 17 participants, a figure that marked a significant step in the consolidation of this sport in Sotogrande.

Four editions on, the competition continues to grow and has become a regular fixture for skippers in the DF65 class.

International sailors with the Spanish Cup on the horizon

One of the main new features of this year’s event will be the participation of sailors from Sweden and Germany, who will join the usual representatives from Málaga, Cádiz and Sotogrande.

This international presence coincides with the growing interest in the upcoming DF65 Spanish Cup, scheduled for 4–7 February 2027 in Sotogrande. The regattas organised by RCSOTOGRANDE offer participants the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the race course and test their skills against the local fleet ahead of this major national event.

The 4th Midas & Co Trophy thus presents a new opportunity to continue promoting radio-controlled sailing in Sotogrande and to raise its profile beyond our borders.

Midas & Co: four editions supporting the DF65 fleet

The trophy has a special connection with the history of RCSOTOGRANDE. Midas & Co was the first sponsor to back the organisation of a DF65 regatta in Sotogrande, marking the start of a partnership that continues four years on.

Their involvement extends to the water as well, as the restaurant regularly takes part in the races with its boat number 17, which is part of the fleet.

As is tradition, following the day’s racing, Midas & Co will host a lunch for the participants at Premidas, its venue in the Port of Sotogrande, where the trophy presentation will subsequently take place.

A regatta open to the public on the River Guadiaro

The competition will take place at the mouth of the River Guadiaro, one of the DF65 fleet’s regular venues.

The public will be able to watch the races between 10.00 and 14.00, enjoying the manoeuvres and strategies of these small radio-controlled sailing boats, which replicate many of the tactical demands of traditional sailing.

The 4th Midas & Co Trophy forms part of RCSOTOGRANDE’s DF65 2026/27 calendar, which features 18 competition dates between September and June, including the Regularity Trophy and various sponsored events.

The organisers are supported by Puerto Sotogrande, in collaboration with the Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande and the Navega Foundation, as well as StraitMagazine, the fleet’s official sponsor, which is involved in publicising the events and providing technical support.

With the 2027 Spanish Cup on the horizon, the 4th Midas & Co Trophy will be a fresh opportunity to assess the progress of a fleet that continues to attract new participants and generate international interest.
